PHP 4, PHP 5 and PHP 7 Support
What's the difference between PHP 4, PHP 5 and PHP 7? How come it's better to have them all at hand? How can you switch between them?
PHP, which is a recursive acronym for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, is one of the most commonly used server-side scripting languages out there. Any site or Internet application built with PHP will run on a given server on the condition that a PHP module is activated, which makes the language really universal and it is hardly unusual that there are actually several million web servers that support it and hundreds of millions of PHP-driven sites running on them. What makes PHP preferred over HTML is the fact that it permits you to create an interactive site with a ton of different features. A PHP-based community website, for instance, will show unique content to each user even though the URL will not change. On the other hand, HTML sites are static and the content on the pages can be updated only manually. Just like any other software program, PHP has different versions and the one that was used whilst setting up a certain website must be configured on the server in order for the site to behave faultlessly.
PHP 4, PHP 5 and PHP 7 Support in Website Hosting
With our Linux website hosting plans
, you’ll be able to choose which PHP version will be active for your account, since several versions are supported on our servers. With only one click of the mouse, you’ll be able to switch between PHP 4, 5, 7 and every time a new version is released in the future, we will add it to the Hepsia hosting Control Panel without removing the previous ones. Thus, you’ll be able to host all the websites that you have set up over the years. In contrast to many other web hosting vendors, we won’t compel you to update such websites, because a script may be out of date, but this does not automatically mean that it is insecure as you may have implemented modifications to its source code to fix security holes. For the sake of your convenience, you will even be able to select a different PHP version for each website hosted in your hosting account.
PHP 4, PHP 5 and PHP 7 Support in Semi-dedicated Servers
Even if your sites were created with an older PHP version, you’ll be able to host them in a semi-dedicated server
account from us, since we support different versions running at the same time on our servers and each of them can be activated for your account with no more than one click from our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel. Aside from the latest PHP 7, we also offer support for 5.3, 5.2 and the older PHP 4. The latter has already been dropped by the majority of web hosting suppliers, but we feel that you shouldn’t be forced to modify a website that took years to develop, as older programming language syntax does not automatically equal safety breaches. Just the opposite, a properly maintained site using PHP 4 can be more secure than a poorly maintained one using PHP 5. For your convenience’s sake, we’ll also offer you the possibility to select a different PHP version for each website within the account.
